BayBrane® Application | Pier and Bridge Protection

Pier Impact Protection|Hydroseal BayBrane® Application

For river scour, debris impact, and severe bridge environments

Piers face river scour, debris impact, water-level changes, and temperature stress. Without protection, concrete wear, crack growth, corrosion, and durability loss may occur. BayBrane® forms a continuous elastic layer for waterproofing, impact protection, and long-term bridge durability.

Why pier protection matters

Piers face more than leakage: scour, impact, and durability risks.

BayBrane® is applied to pier, bridge, and river environments to reduce surface damage from long-term scour and external impact.

01

Debris and stone impact

Typhoons, heavy rain, and water-level changes can drive stones, driftwood, and debris against pier surfaces.

02

Long-term river scour

Continuous water exposure requires stable adhesion and durable surface protection.

03

Concrete wear and cracking

Wear, cracks, and weak points may increase maintenance costs and reduce durability.

04

Moisture and corrosion risk

Water entering concrete may increase reinforcement corrosion and structural deterioration.

Project timeline

BayBrane® has been tested in severe bridge and pier environments.

From Taiwan High Speed Rail piers to international bridge projects, BayBrane® applications are supported by long-term exposure and field testing.

1999

Introduced to Taiwan

Hydroseal introduced BayBrane® materials and technology to Taiwan for waterproofing and special engineering protection.

How BayBrane® forms a pier protection layer

Understand BayBrane® pier protection through principles, data, and references.

How BayBrane® protects piers and bridges

Pier protection is more than waterproofing. It uses a continuous elastic layer with compression strength to reduce damage from stones, debris, scour, and weather exposure.

BayBrane® cures quickly after spraying and forms a uniform orange-peel, non-sag membrane. A penetrating primer improves bonding to concrete or metal substrates.

This application page focuses on pier impact protection, bridge protection, river scour, and severe engineering environments.

Tests & Performance

Repeated compression, field sampling, and long-term property testing verify elasticity, compression strength, and protection performance.

100,000

Repeated compression test

The material remained stable after 100,000 compression cycles.

After 3 years

Field sample retest

A three-year field sample passed another 100,000-cycle compression test.

After 7 years

Values remained above standard

Key properties remained above BayBrane® standard values after seven years.

150 kg/cm²

Compression strength reference

At 50% deformation, the material can reach 150 kg/cm² while retaining elasticity.

Pier Impact Protection Key Points

Key points on pier protection, bridge protection, material performance, and project references.

Why is BayBrane® suitable for pier impact protection?

BayBrane® is a high-grade elastomer without additives. Independent tests at different temperatures verify its waterproofing and protection performance.

For piers exposed to scour, debris, and stone impact, BayBrane® forms a continuous elastic layer that helps reduce surface damage.

What test data supports BayBrane® pier protection?

BayBrane® passed a 100,000-cycle repeated compression test without deformation.

After three years, a field sample passed another 100,000-cycle test. After seven years, key properties remained above BayBrane® standard values.

How does BayBrane® perform under compression?

At 50% compression deformation, BayBrane® can reach 150 kg/cm² compression strength while retaining elasticity after repeated compression.

What bridge and pier projects use BayBrane®?

BayBrane® was used with Taiwan High Speed Rail in 2007 for pier protection against long-term river scour.

Related applications include Minjiang Bridge piers, Harbin high-speed rail bridges, and Macau LRT elevated bridge structures.
